How does laser work for facial rejuvenation?
As time goes by, skin loses its tightness, skin appears lose, the texture of the skin becomes worse and gradually wrinkles start to appear. This aging phenomenon is due to loss of collagen , elastin and fat as years go by.
Laser rejuvenations works by increasing the skin production of endogenous collagen by activating inoblasts. The deeper layers of the skin are activated, hence the skin enters into a ‘self-repairing’ process that results to improve the wrinkle and to an extend skin relaxation. In addition laser resurfacing works by removing a superficial layer of the skin that results to lighter pigmentation of the skin surface and also softens skin wrinkles.
What are the most common areas that laser rejuvenation is performed?
The most common areas for treatment are:
- Wrinkles of the face
- Wrinkles in the neck area
- For acne scars
- Wrinkles on the exposed areas of the hands
When are the results of laser apparent? How many session will I need?
The results of laser rejuvenation after the first session takes a few days to be apparent as the skin goes into a ‘self -repairing’ process. The number of treatments depends on a few factors such as, how deep are the wrinkles/scars, the age of the patient, the colour of the skin etc. Sessions range on an average 3-6 and this is discussed after evaluation of the area that needs to be treated.
How is the laser rejuvenation performed?
The patient after having an assessment by the Dr Sakka, in the treated areas a local anaesthetic cream is placed in order to make the whole process painless. Laser treatment lasts for a few minutes 5-10. After treatment there might be a slight erythema (redness) that is easily covered with make- up and treated patients can return immediately to their daily activities.
