How does chemical peeling works?

Chemical peelings are chemical solutions that are used to imrpve the soften the texture of the facial skin by removing outer, destroyed layers of skin. There are many different types of chemical peels that are categorized into superficial, medium and deeper strength. After assessment, Dr Sakka will decide which chemical peel is more appropriate for each patient according to individualized needs.

In which instances chemical peels are used?

Chemical peels can be used in patients with liver spots, age spots that are usually on the face and hands/ arms and generally have non-homogenous skin colour. Furthermore, chemical peels are used as a treatment for acne and acne scars and also for skin wrinkles.

What to expect after having a treatment with a chemical peel?

Depending on the type of the chemical peel it can be caused a different type of reaction. For examples superficial types of chemical peels are expected to have a very mild erythema that usually resolves within 24 hours. Stronger chemical peels may cause slight peeling of the skin surface. In stronger chemical peels can result in extensive redness of the skin, peeling and form of a crust that may last from 1- 14 days. The reaction expected will be discussed during consultation with Dr Sakka and if a patient wishes not to have ‘strong reactions’ it will be addressed as an issue.

What do I need to do after having a chemical peeling?

After treatment with a chemical peeling exposure to the sun needs to be avoided. Sunscreen with a high SPF should be applied and daily moisturization of the area treated. Any other individualized instructions with be explained during treatment.
